studio segers enables city farming with daily needs unit

‘daily needs’ is a modular product by belgium firm studio segers that enables people
to live more self sufficiently. the unit incorporates a chicken coop into its design, with tools
supplied that help with quasi-passive living such as growing vegetables, composting and
collecting rainwater. the project helps urban dwellers to consume locally, where natural
sustenance and communal gardens are contributing to a change in attitude towards food
production. the small-scale intervention also encourages outdoor activity and healthy eating
in an economically sustainable way. the concept of city farming provides a source of income, as
people can sell their harvest, strengthening social ties in the community. the project was
generated with dodesign in cooperation with the mad-faculty (lucu/pxl), cultuurplatform
design and ide – and developed with the support of the city of genk and the flemish government.
